1) The first batch of five Rafale fighter jets of the 36 ordered by India arrived at the Indian Air Force (IAF) Station in Ambala on 29 July 2020. These Rafales will become part of which squadron of the IAF? – 17 Squadron (The 5 Rafale fighter jets that arrived at IAF’s Ambala station on 29 July 2020 will officially become part of the 17 Squadron which is nicknamed “Golden Arrows”. The squadron is part of the Western Air Command of the IAF. The Rafales left the Merignac airbase in French port city of Bordeaux on 27 July 2020, and arrived in India after covering a distance of nearly 7,000 km. 2) On 29 July 2020 the Union Cabinet cleared a new National Education Policy (NEP) proposing sweeping changes in school and higher education. The NEP 2020 has pitched in which new structure of school education in place of the 10+2 structure which is in place since 1986? - 5+3+3+4 (The proposed 5+3+3+4 structure of school education in NEP 2020 corresponds to the age groups 3-8 years (foundational stage), 8-11 (preparatory), 11-14 (middle), and 14-18 (secondary). The mid-day meal programme will be extended to pre-school children. The NEP 2020 says students until Class 5 should be taught in their mother tongue or regional language. Other sweeping changes in NEP 2020 include overhauling the school curriculum, introduction of a four-year multidisciplinary undergraduate programme with multiple exit options, semester system for board exams, dismantling of the UGC and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and discontinuation of the M Phil programme. Dr. K. Kasturirangan was the Chairman of the committee which had recommended changes in the education policies)

5) Indian Railways during July 2020 handed-over ten diesel locomotives to which neighbouring country? – Bangladesh (India on 27 July 2020 handed over 10 broad gauge (BG) diesel locomotive engines to Bangladesh thus strengthening neighbouring country's railway infrastructure. All ten locomotives have a residual life of 28 years or more. These are WDM-3D type, a class of diesel-electric locomotive with 3,300 horsepower with a speed of 120 kmph)

6) United States’ third mission and final to Mars was successfully launched on 30 July 2020. What is the name of the Mars rover that has been sent with this mission? – Perseverance (Perseverance rover is the name of the wheeled robotic rover that was dispatched for Mars through United States’ third and last mission to the red planet from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida on 30 July 2020. The mission is also carrying a four-pound helicopter called “Ingenuity”. Perseverance Rover is expected to land on Mars’ crater Jezero on 18 February 2021)
